Privacy Policy

1. Our Commitment to Privacy

privisay is designed with privacy as its foundation. Unlike cloud-based speech-to-text services, privisay processes all audio locally on your Mac. Your voice data never leaves your device.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

privisay does not collect, transmit, or store on any server:

• Audio recordings or voice data
• Transcribed text content
• Usage analytics or telemetry
• Personal information
• Device identifiers

Your audio and transcriptions are never transmitted off your device. The only network activity privisay performs is the initial model download (see Section 5) and periodic checks for application updates (see Section 6). Neither of these transmits your audio, transcriptions, or any personal data.

3. Local Processing

All speech recognition is performed on-device using WhisperKit, which runs OpenAI's Whisper model locally on your Mac's Apple Neural Engine. Audio is captured in-memory, processed immediately, and discarded after transcription. No audio files are written to disk.

If you enable the optional Smart Formatting feature (available on macOS 26 and later with Apple Intelligence enabled), your transcribed text is formatted using Apple's on-device Foundation Models. This processing also happens entirely on your Mac — your text is not sent to Apple or any other server.

4. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

Some features store small amounts of data locally on your Mac to work. This data never leaves your device and is never transmitted to us or any third party:

• Time Saved / Money Saved — daily dictated word counts and your optional hourly rate, used to display how much time and money you've saved.
• Personal speed settings — your typing and reading speeds if you choose to measure them (the reading measurement is timed only; no audio is transcribed or stored).
• Preferences — your application settings.

This information is stored in macOS UserDefaults on your own machine and can be reset at any time from within the application.

5. Third-Party Services

privisay uses the following third-party services:

• WhisperKit (by Argmax) - Provides the on-device transcription engine. WhisperKit runs entirely locally and does not transmit any data.
• Apple Foundation Models - Powers the optional Smart Formatting feature on macOS 26 and later. Runs entirely on-device through Apple Intelligence and does not transmit any data.
• HuggingFace - Hosts the Whisper AI model files. The transcription model (approximately 1.5 GB) is downloaded from HuggingFace the first time you launch the app, rather than being bundled with it. After this one-time download, no connection to HuggingFace is required.

None of these services receives your audio or transcriptions.

6. Software Updates

privisay periodically checks for new versions so it can keep itself up to date. These update checks contact our update feed (hosted on GitHub) to compare version numbers and download the update if you choose to install it. Update checks transmit no audio, transcriptions, personal data, or telemetry — only a standard request for the update file. You can disable automatic update checks in the application's preferences.

7. Website Data

When you visit our website (privisay.com), we may collect standard web analytics data such as page views and referral sources. This data is anonymized and used solely to improve our website. The website does not access or interact with the privisay application on your Mac.

8. Purchase Data

When you purchase privisay, your payment is processed by our payment provider. We receive only the information necessary to fulfill your order (email address for license delivery). We do not store credit card information.

9. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
